Spencer Black reconsidering his vote: Says Hulsey has "problem with trustworthiness"

Manski for Wisconsin
October 30, 2010

Have you heard this news . . . ?

“I had previously indicated that I was intending to vote for the entire Democratic ticket. At this point, I am rethinking how I intend to vote in the Assembly race.” ~ State Representative Spencer Black

For the story, read today's The Capital Times article here:

As a voter, it's helpful to know when candidates have been honest with you, and when they haven't. One reason why Rep. Black is now considering voting for Manski, as opposed to Hulsey, is that Hulsey made up an endorsement from Black, attributed it to Black, and then, against Black's explicit instructions, sent that information to thousands of voters. As stated in The Capital Times, Spencer Black believes Hulsey has "a problem with trustworthiness."

This follows on Hulsey's misuse of Congresswoman Baldwin's name in radio and print advertising, and his misuse of the names of Rep. Pocan and Rep. Mason as supporters, neither of whom endorsed him. In fact, Rep. Pocan had kind words for Ben Manski in this past week's Badger Herald, saying that Manski, "would be an ally of mine" and "would work closely with the Democrats [to] help craft and advance our agenda." Pocan would know, as he has "worked with Ben on a number of issues [including] social justice, the environment and clean elections." These latest misrepresentations by Hulsey follow a longstanding pattern. For example, Hulsey has long used a quote from a The Capital Times endorsement dating back to a county board race to make it appear as if he had the support of that newspaper in the state assembly race. Not so. In fact, last week The Capital Times made a glowing endorsement of Ben Manski for Assembly: "Ben Manski has deep roots on the west side and in the progressive movement. The 77th District has an opportunity to make a powerful political statement by electing him; voters should seize it." See: http://votemanski.com/capital-times-elect-ben-manski

Tens of thousands of voters have heard the radio ads falsely claiming that Baldwin supported Hulsey. They have also seen the quote falsely attributed to Spencer Black. But how many will read the online edition of The Capital Times, and discover that they have been misled? That is why we are emailing you.

Voters have an opportunity to elect a candidate in Ben Manski who has been described by leading Democrats as a "man of great integrity," a "fresh face," and "a very good man." Those leading Democrats were three of the four candidates who faced Hulsey in the Democratic primary.
