Gonzalez & Cobb unite for Manski
A joint appeal from Matt Gonzalez, former president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, and David Cobb, 2004 Green Party presidential nominee, representing different strands of the green movement, uniting to support Manski for Wisconsin:
Friends,
What would it take to elect an independent, green progressive to a major legislative body, someone who has the courage and strength to stand up to the lobbyists and the corporations, yet also has a history of bringing progressive minded people together to fight the good fight?
It would take a progressive with years of commitment to progressive causes who is well known and respected as a leader in his community. And it would take a community that doesn't shy away from progressive traditions. We have just that perfect storm happening in Madison, Wisconsin where Ben Manski is running for State Representative.
We are appealing to you for help to get him elected.
Madison, Wisconsin is one of the most progressive cities in the world. It was the home of the Progressive Party in the 1930s, of the anti-war movement in the 1960s, and of the student global justice movement in the 1990s. A long-serving progressive Democrat recently announced his retirement from the State Assembly, and this opened up the perfect district – progressive, environmentally active, and politically engaged.
Ben Manski, a youthful and charismatic veteran in the progressive political movement, has been on the front lines of social justice causes, environmental activism and green politics for nearly 25 years. He was an effective and well-regarded chair of our national political party. He led the No Stolen Elections! campaigns. He founded the Liberty Tree Foundation to build a democracy movement for the U.S.A.. This past year, he helped launch the Move to Amend coalition to overcome corporate personhood. And best of all, he grew up in this particular state assembly district and has been living there for most of the past 30 years. Check out his website at Please give now: http://votemanski.com . . . He is the perfect candidate.
Ben Manski knows how to run a campaign, and he knows how to win. He's already won:
~ The support of the teachers union, the firefighters union, the TA union, animal rights and student groups, and the powerful local political party, Progressive Dane.
~ Endorsements from leading Democrats, including the current secretary of state, a former state attorney general, a former mayor, a current village president, a current school board president, and nearly 30 other local elected officials.
~ The backing of Madison's progressive newspaper, The Capital Times, which has never before endorsed a Green Party candidate in a partisan race.
~ Public endorsements from two of the four candidates who faced Ben's opponent in the Democratic primary.
Ben Manski is the kind of candidate that can make a race neck and neck for $30,000, and can map out a victory for $50,000. Guess what? He’s passed $30,000, but short of $45,000 with just 11 days remaining. Now is the time to give Ben Manski the resources he needs to win this race. This is likely the best chance across the nation to put a green in a legislative seat and show Americans how electing Greens to important posts can improve their lives and address issues they genuinely care about. It could have transformative effects around the country.
Friends, we need your help today: http://votemanski.com . . . Every dollar helps and every hour we wait is an hour lost to make a difference.
~ Matt Gonzalez & David Cobb
p.s. ~ Manski's opponent is a corporate lobbyists who was paid $192,000 to lobby for coal (nevermind his ethanol and propane clients). One reason so many Democrats are crossing over to the Green candidate is that the choice between Ben and his opponent is so stark. Please give now: http://votemanski.com
